Centipede

Centipede Control Treatment

House centipedes are easy to spot by their elongated, worm-like bodies and their many pairs of legs. Depending on the species, they can have anywhere from 15 to 177 pairs of legs — always in odd numbers.

Typically, centipedes have yellowish to dark brown bodies, sometimes marked with darker stripes or patterns. Their heads carry long, sensitive antennae covered with dense hairs.

They have small mouths but large, claw-like structures that contain venom glands. Some species have compound eyes with up to 200 optical units, while others have only simple eyes or none at all.

Common types in India

  • House Centipede - Found indoors; long legs and fast-moving; preys on other insects.
  • Giant Centipede - Larger species; usually found in gardens or under rocks; venomous bite.
  • Indian Tiger Centipede - Distinctive striped body; aggressive; found in rural and semi-urban areas.
  • Soil Centipede - Lives underground; small and slow-moving; rarely enters homes.
Although centipedes help control other pests, some species can bite, causing localized pain, swelling, and allergic reactions in humans.
