House Lizard

House Lizard

It is vital to be careful if your surroundings have lizards. These small, creepy creatures with furless skin may seem harmless, but they can pose serious health risks.

It is not necessary that they bite you; even simple contact can be harmful. Lizards secrete toxic substances that may be fatal in various ways.

If a lizard falls into any food item, it can contaminate it, making the food poisonous. Their secretions left in food are extremely dangerous, and such food items should be strictly avoided.

Common types in India

  • Common House Gecko - Most frequently found in Indian homes; usually seen on walls and ceilings at night.
  • Brook’s House Gecko - Larger than common geckos; often spotted around lights where insects gather.
  • Rock Gecko - Usually found outdoors near rocks, gardens, or stone walls; rarely enters homes.
  • Fan-Throated Lizard - A ground-dwelling species more common in rural or semi-urban areas.
Lizards can contaminate food and surfaces with their toxic secretions, posing a serious health risk if ingested or contacted.
